About West African Network of Natural Products Research Scientists

As the name depicts WANNPRES is composed of natural products research scientists in 15 Western Africa Countries: Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso Cameroon Niger, Mauritania, Chad, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. The idea of bringing together Natural Products Research Scientists in the sub region of Western Africa was muted in Abuja, Nigeria in 2002. For easy operation, WANNPRES is coordinated by a National coordinator in the various member Countries. The different nations are expected to organize national programmes and encourage networking among the various Natural Product research scientists in their countries.

What we hope to achieve as a society of natural products scientists

Identify and encourage research in the area of natural products;

Promote links among natural product researchers in the Western Africa sub-region;

Foster and maintain links with natural products research scientists in other parts of the world;

Educate and encourage the public on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Disseminate research information.

Membership

The following are the qualifications of our members

Membership shall be opened to scientists engaged in natural products research.
Associate membership shall be open to students and research staff working in the field of natural products.
Honorary membership may be granted to outstanding individuals with substantial contribution to the promotion of natural product research. Council may grant honorary membership to an individual upon nomination by a full member.
Corporate Membership may be granted to institutions that share common goals and objectives with WANNPRES. Membership shall be sought for by the Executive Secretary.
Full and Associate membership shall be by submission of a completed application form to the Executive Committee.
All members shall have the right to attend meetings. Only full members who have paid their subscriptions are eligible to vote and hold office.
